Medications which are restricted and carry special legislative responsibilities controlling their sale and record-keeping need to be managed differently online. It is required that pharmacists’ complete consultations with the patient and have record of this.

There are a few different ways to manage your online restricted medications:

  • Remove any restricted products from your site
  • Set restricted products to enquire only
  • Create Consult Question for restricted products using our custom forms feature
  • Use Manual Orders to sell restricted medicines online to specific customer

You may want to use a range of these options. For example, you can set the product as enquiry only, require the patient to fill out a custom consult form, and if you decide to supply the medication, you can send the patient a pre-populated cart as a manual order directly to their email address.

Setting Products to Enquiry Only

You may not wish to sell the products through the website, but still want the products to be featured in an "enquiry only" mode. If your products are pushed through a POS integration, you will need to a change the behaviour of the relevant products to directly in your POS.

1. Head to the Products tab in your site.
2. Locate the product you would like to edit
3. Click the cog icon on the line of the product
4. Click Edit Product Details

5. Navigate to the Visibility Tab
6. Select “Display this product, but don’t allow it to be purchased. Customers can send you an enquiry email about the product by clicking on an enquire button”.

7. Click Finish
Your product will now display an “Enquire” button in place of “Add to Cart”.

You can also update the products in bulk via a product export and import by following these instructions:

Product Forms - Custom Add to Cart Fields

You can add customised forms to your website for your customers to complete. This can work as a consult form that a customer must fill out before adding a restricted medicine to their cart to proceed with purchasing.

Removing Products

IMPORTANT: If your website is POS integrated, you need to remove the product first through your POS before deleting it off the website.

If you are unsure how to remove the integration for individual products, contact your POS below!

You can easily remove products in bulk within Storbie. However, if your products are pushed through a POS integration, you will need to alternatively (or also) turn off eCommerce enablement on the relevant products directly in your POS.

1. Navigate to the Products tab

Manual Orders

The Manual Orders feature enables you to create a one-off custom order that can be linked to your customers. They can then head directly to checkout and place the corresponding order. For example, if a customer enquires about a restricted medicine and you decide to supply it, you can see them a manual order with the medication required. This feature can also be used to facilitate prescription co-payments.

Important Note: When selling medicines online you must not have comparative pricing on for them.

Comparative pricing settings control which products show comparative (crossed out) pricing to customers when the price is discounted. You may want to turn comparative pricing off to meet legal requirements surrounding promotions of medication etc.
