Pharmacies are often viewed as high risk by both payment gateway and banks. Primarily this is due to the fines that can be incurred from Visa and Mastercard if any laws are broken around the sale of restricted medicines.

Storbie offers a number of payment gateway options as detailed below. You should start the process with your chosen payment gateway as early as possible to ensure it is ready when you need it.

Stripe

Stripe offers Storbie pharmacy customers a streamlined sign-up process, although compliance documentation is still required. It includes Apple Pay and Google Pay - convenient payment systems for your mobile customers.

Stripe also offers a process to allow you to sell restricted products with them if you meet their criteria and complete their compliance requirements.

PayPal

PayPal allows for Credit and debit card transactions on most OTC products. You can sign up to PayPay and have it connected to your site in less than 20 minutes.

Note that PayPal does not condone transactions for prescription items.

POLi (New Zealand only)

POLi Pay is a lower-cost for pharmacies as it facilitates a connection to the customer’s internet banking login, which POLi automates and processes. The payment is transferred directly into your bank account. POLi allows payments for prescription medicines.

Note that POLi no longer operates in Australia and is only available in New Zealand.

Part Pay Solutions

Storbie integrates with AfterPay, a popular part-pay solution with consumers and can lead to higher cart values. Stripe also offers a part-pay solution.

Signing up can be a lengthy process for pharmacies as banks generally require a new merchant account. The processing of a merchant account application can take some time as your bank will require financial documentation.
